POPULATION CHANGES BY RACE, AGE, SEX AND LEVEL OF AFFLUENCE

The ethnic diversity in Colombia is the result of the mixture of indigenous Amerindians, Spanish settlers and African slaves, which gives rise to a population of mestizos, whites, mulattoes and blacks, as well as mixed blacks and Amerindians, or Zambians. The proportions of different ethnic groups vary markedly by region.
