By 2017 a deficit target of 3.3% was established and by 2018 of 2.7%. Well below the almost 4% for 2017 that resulted from applying the rule. The proposal was justified by the fact that the current account deficit was still very high and it was necessary to help reduce it by adjusting for public expenditure.

The Minister of Finance, Mauricio Cárdenas, reiterated that the National Government will continue to work on poverty reduction.

"The great achievement of these six years has been that 4 million 600 thousand Colombians have left their condition of poverty, which is the fundamental basis of Colombia's economic success. We are going to maintain programs like Familias en Acción, Colombia Mayor,el programa de Cero a Siempre, la educación pública gratuita, y programas fundamentales para familias en condición de vulnerabilidad”", finished.
