Attitudes toward government

“The exercise of political authority over the actions, affairs, etc, of a politicalunit, people,    etc, as well as the performance of certain functions for this unit or body; the action of governing; politicalrule and administration” (thefreedictionary.com, 2014)

Today, colombians have better attitudes toward the principles of liberal democracy such as separation of power and the existence of guaranties toward the opposition and minorities. Even so, respect to previous years, citizens are less satisfied with the operation of democracy. This is shown on a fewer support to the political system, less trust on public institutions, higher skepticism on the ability of the state to protect their basic rights and in front of the effectiveness of justice. This support to the political system consists on the degree of legitimacy that people give to the country’s government system. This is an essential dimension for an stable democracy.

The Colombians doubt about the legitimacy of their state as to how they protect the lives of citizens, so the respect of Colombians is more towards the companies than the government.
