Stock market trends

According to Helber Mauricio Monroy, professor at the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, the stock market is defined as “el sitio donde acuden oferentes y demandantes de dinero y se lleva a cabo una transferencia desde los oferentes que son los inversionistas, hacia los demandantes que son las empresas y el gobierno, quienes necesitan financiamiento” (Monroy Pedraza, 2014) There, different types of transactions are carried out among them in the currency, equity and derivatives markets, etc, where at the same time different alternatives of long and short term investment are found.

The Colombian stock exchange aims to be the mediator between companies that need capital and people or companies that have it and decide to invest in companies as they obtained a remuneration translated into profits generated by the company.

Below there is a figure that represents the behavior of the stock market trend in Colombia over the last 5 years.

In the previous figure the horizontal axis shows the variation in years and the vertical axis shows the variation Colombian pesos of the shares that are currently in the market. Here it is observed that between 2015 and 2016 the stock price of 2000 pesos has been falling, reaching the lowest point of approximately 1100 pesos; while in the course of 2016 the trends have remained constant

In Colombia, “The COLCAP is a major stock market index which tracks the performance of the 24 most liquid stocks traded in the Colombia Stock Exchange (Bolsa de Valores de Colombia)” (TRADING ECONOMICS, s.f.)

In this way, people interested in investing in the Colombian Stock Market evaluate each trends present and determine which company can most favor their investment and give them the best financial return for their money.
